Mountain and MTB Family
LAURA – CREAG – CARAGH – SCOTT MUIR
We’re a true outdoor family based in Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, Heart of the Scottish Highlands, living and breathing adventure sports — from snowboarding, splitboarding, and skiing to ice climbing, rock climbing, mountaineering, and, of course, being slightly mad mountain bikers.
We’ve spent years racing and exploring bike parks across the UK and beyond, riding technical natural trails, and seeking out big mountain MTB adventures. I’m the father of two National-level Downhill MTB racers, with one that competed at UCI World Cup Junior level for Great Britain. Creag can often be seen at Sender Bike Park but is heading to Canada to work as a Guide and Coach in Fernie, Kimberley and Cranbrook for Ride Theory.
My daughter Caragh helps me at the Bike Park too, she has been riding since she could stand up, balance biking and pedalling her way to Dirt Crits from 6, Borders Mini DH, Highland Hardlines, Scottish Downhill Series and British Cycling DH Nationals, but she is in rehab after several bad crashes required Spinal Surgery. She will be back riding very soon and starting her journey as a MTB Coach.

“The dream was to create the ultimate coaching arena — a place where beginner and intermediate riders can build real confidence and master core bike skills with ease, in a friendly, supportive, pressure-free environment”
Sender Bike Park is a fully self-funded Family Business.
Sender Bike Park – Aviemore, Rothiemurchus in the Cairngorms, Highlands of Scotland
As high-level riders and with the experience of designing and manufacturing MTB Coaching equipment (Sender Ramps) we saw a real gap in the market to build a proper Coaching area that complemented and enhanced Scott’s Coaching and Teaching Qualifications.
Instead of moaning about a lack of “imperfect” facilities we got stuck in, got creative and packed a lot of features into a compact but highly effective space. And so, Sender Bike Park was born in 2024, tweaks were made at the start of 2025 and we added 3 Airbags late in 2025 to give us a super unique and progressive coaching area for all abilities.. New features and some rebuilding has been completed in time for the 2026 season and undoubtedly gives us one of the best places to improve in the country. Development at Sender Bike Park is not yet finished. We hope the landowner (Rothiemurchus) will provide some more land so we can really to go the next level and realise the big jump lines – watch this space!

The critical USP at Sender Bike Park is Scott’s ability to help clients master complex skills and techniques by breaking them down into easily achieved components, allowing practice and refinement without losing ANY coaching time. Add in a wealth of outstanding Natural Trails to put these skills back into context and we offer a winning combination for anyone improve their riding.
I’ve spent over 33 years operating at the highest level of mountain sport performance, pushing my own limits in the world’s most demanding environments. My climbing career includes establishing and repeating some of the world’s hardest sport mixed routes, up to M13, competing in Ice Climbing World Cups and World Championships, and opening new routes on major peaks up to 7,000m across the globe, including expeditions with Sir Chris Bonington. I climbed my first Scottish winter VII,7 (Messiah) at just 17.
Alongside my personal achievements, I bring deep experience in performance coaching and elite athlete development. I hold top-level mountain guiding and coaching qualifications and have worked at the National Centre Glenmore Lodge Performance Coaching .
The Backstory to Scott Muir – Sender Bike Park and Performance Mountain Sports
At 19, I made the first ascent of a Himalayan summit in India and joined the Scottish Mountaineering Club the same year. By 22 I was a PE Teacher and by 24, I became an MIC (now WMCI), completing the scheme in a record time of 1 year and 7 months.
I’ve owned and operated my own climbing wall and have designed and built commercial climbing walls across the UK for over 20 years. I helped introduce Leashless climbing to the UK, established the first dry tooling competitions, and founded the Scottish Youth Climbing and Bouldering Championships, contributing to the growth of climbing development pathways in Scotland.

I’ve designed and manufactured hundreds of indoor climbing facilities across the UK, including the National Centre Training Wall at Glenmore Lodge, and previously owned and operated my own commercial indoor climbing wall in Aviemore. This combines hands-on coaching insight with long-term facility design and development. I still design custom Home Training facilities; an example of customers includes Dave McLeod and William Bosi.
My work within Climbing includes serving on the Safety & Training Committee, Executive, and helped to establish the Sports Development Committee of Mountaineering Scotland.
Based in Aviemore, Cairngorms National Park, I bring an exceptional breadth and depth of experience across mountaineering, climbing, mountain guiding, and Mountain Bike and eMTB coaching in Scotland. This combined expertise allows me to help you climb and ride with more confidence, better technique, and faster progression — whether on rock, ice, alpine terrain, or trails.
Mountain Biking
I owned, designed, and manufactured Award Winning MTB Coaching Equipment at Sender Ramps. We created some of the world’s most advanced flatland MTB coaching and skills training equipment. These products were designed specifically to improve core mountain bike handling skills, progression, and confidence for riders of all levels.
Our Market leading product was the award-winning Pro Core Skills Trainer (also known as the “Manual Master Machine”), now used by coaches and performance programmes to accelerate MTB skills development. My equipment was trusted as supplier a to British Cycling, Scottish Cycling, German Cycling Federation and used by hundreds of clubs, bike parks and coaches across the world.

I’ve organised Dirt Crit and Mini Downhill races for Scottish Cycling and supported major UK MTB events including Highland Hardline and the Borders Mini DH Series, contributing through marshalling and as an assistant whilst training as DH Commissaire (incomplete).
I’ve completed many of the UK’s most iconic and challenging mountain bike routes and epic MTB adventures, and ridden bike parks and trail centres worldwide, including:
Verbier, Les Gets, Morzine, Saint-Luc, Serfaus, Lac Blanc, La Bresse, Les Saisies, Les Houches, Dyfi Bike Park, BikePark Wales, Caersws, Dirt Farm, Antur, Innerleithen, Glencoe, Nevis Range, Phoenix Bike Park, Twisted Oaks, and Ae Forest.
I’m proudly supported by leading MTB brands: Muc-Off, Ride Concepts, Michelin Tyres, and IXS.

My international mountaineering and climbing expeditions span: The Andes Peru, Nepal, India, Tanzania, The Tatra Mountains, Tibet, Greenland, North America, and Canada. These include major expeditions with Sir Chris Bonington to Tibet (to 7,000m) and Greenland.
I’ve also organised major outdoor and adventure events, including Red Bull White Cliffs, contributing to the development and promotion of climbing and mountain sports in the UK.
My work in mountain sports and outdoor performance has featured across film, TV, and broadcast media, including: Climbing for the Fatherland (Eiger North Face) – Bonington’s Secret Mountain (Sky TV) – BBC Scotland Outdoor Show – BBC Radio Scotland.
